STEVE - PAUL BLOOMFIELD

Steve is the hero of the film, so to speak.  He finds the video camera and decides to document the lives of the group he's become a part of.  Originally more optimistic, the many months of simply trying to survive and realising that they may very well be the last people left alive anywhere has taken its toll and left Steve feeling lost and empty.  His decision to record their day to day activities has given his life some short focus, although it's clear early he feels that it's only a matter of time before they all succumb to the same fate that has taken the majority of the world.  He is a calm character throughout, but not one to take charge or often express his opinion (apart from when alone).  He has a friendly connection to most of the group, especially Adele, whom he feels closer to due to her resemblance to his long lost sister.  Nick is clearly his nemesis - someone he truly believes to be dangerous despite the others views.  His interest in filming the group is accepted by most, but not really seen as important.  Finding somewhere safe is more a priority, although Steve believes it may be too late for that.

Paul Bloomfield joined the production a few days prior to shooting the first scenes but quickly showed his stage acting talents but learning the script quickly and being able to deliver some of the longer monologues featured in it.  He also got to know the character of Steve and even adapt some of the lines to better suit this character who was at the brink of giving up.  Pauls talent for languages also came into play for certain other aspects of the film.
